Bioinspired Drag Reduction of Cavities Induced by Janus Nanostructure Interfaces on Hydrophobic Spheres Plunging into Water with a Low Speed

چکیده

Form drag of the blunt object occurs from pressure difference due to physical dimensions obstructing and altering flow fluid. The innovative approach form reduction is realized by changing shape a streamlined body introducing cavity. construction superhydrophobic interfaces widely considered as best solution for cavity, because water prevented penetrating space between nanoscale structures, leading Cassie–Baxter wetting regime then splashing outward. Here, Janus nanostructure coating on hydrophobic spheres, it found that position (impacting direction) coverage ratio (r) nanostructures, accurately manipulate performance film sphere surface. When faces upward, detached thin develops splash crown only if r increases 1/3 or even above. Correspondingly, remaining open aperture aids in increasing subsequent air entrainment, an air-entrainment cavity trapped However, downward, tiny region nanostructures (r ≤ 1/8) can help liquid directly develop into

Numerical Investigation on the Effect of Tunnel Height on Drag Reduction in a High Speed Trimaran

There are different methods to reduce drag in high speed hulls. One of these methods is a change in the shape of the body by adding longitudinal side tunnels. In this paper it has been attempted to determine the influence of the tunnel height on hydrodynamic characteristics of the hull to achieving an optimum shape for the tunnel. To achieve this purpose, numerical simulation of the problem has...

Water entry of small hydrophobic spheres

We present the results of a combined experimental and theoretical investigation of the normal impact of hydrophobic spheres on a water surface. Particular attention is given to characterizing the shape of the resulting air cavity in the low Bond number limit, where cavity collapse is driven principally by surface tension rather than gravity. A parameter study reveals the dependence of the cavit...

Terminal velocity and drag reduction measurements on superhydrophobic spheres

Super water-repellent surfaces occur naturally on plants and aquatic insects and are created in the laboratory by combining micro or nano-scale surface topographic features with hydrophobic surface chemistry. When such types of water-repellent surfaces are submerged they can retain a film of air (a plastron). In this work, we report measurements of the terminal velocity of solid acrylic spheres...
